Interior and exterior wood selection

Barrel saunas can be done of thermowood or spruce. Thermo wood is dimensionally stable, has resistance to rot and fungi compare to other types of wood. Spruce timber is an excellent material for load-bearing structures and exterior linings. Spruce timber benefits: weight, quite stable, good looking. Spruce exterior should be impregnated to gain resistance against humidity, pests, rot and fungus.

External wood colour

All barrel saunas are impregnated. You can choose from 4 different colors. We use Remmers or Tikkurila. Of course you can choose colour what you like. Just send us colour code and we will impregnate your sauna *The color may differ in reality from picture in our website

Bitumen roof tiles colour

All saunas are covered using bitumen tiles to provide with an effective waterproof, weatherproof, chemical resistant protective coating

Heaters

We use Harvia and Sawo heaters suitable for sauna. Harvia and Sawo is the best known heaters producers which quality is known all over the world. You can choose electric or wood burning heater. Insulated chimney with rain protection is included. You can always choose your own heater. Just send us heater brand and model and we will install it to your sauna.

Entrance doors to sauna

The entrance doors to sauna is usually made of glass. The glass is tempered, brown-toned, so it is very safe. You get more light entering to sauna through glass. By the way glass is stable, so the doors won't be stuck.

Windows

There are several options: full panoramic window, 50% panoramic window or 2 small windows. The glass in our barrel saunas is 6 mm thickness, tempered, brown-toned. Windows can be established in the front or back of the barrel sauna.

Already included! Benches made of asp or lime tree. *if you choose barrel sauna made of thermowood, benches and floors can be manufactured from the same material.

Layout

Our premium barrel sauna is available in 2 different layout options to utilize it’s 3meter length:

Sauna room 2.40m with 0.6 m terrace with 2 benches
Sauna room 3m

Sauna’s diameter is 2.2 meters.

As standard a 3 meter barrel sauna is built using spruce timber or thermally treated timber (thermowood). Whereas, the benches and floors are made of asp and lime tree or thermowood to avoid resin

Thickness of barrel saunas walls is 40 -45 mm.

Sauna made from thermowood will be more sustainable and will have a longer life-span comparing with spruce sauna. Regardless, of thermally treated timber benefits of dimensional stability, resistance to rot and fungus, your sauna will also look more luxurious.

Sauna made from Spruce timber is also a good choice and more economical too. Considering spruce’s most significant qualities like poor weather resistance it is going to be necessary to maintain (paint/oil ) the external side once in a while.

As standard our barrel saunas will be improved with high-quality tempered and brown toned glass of 6 mm thickness.

We offer three window design options:

50% panoramic glass

100% panoramic glass (may extend manufacturing lead time)

2 small windows

As standard saunas roof will be covered using bitumen roof tiles that are available in several colors. We have chosen to use this material to ensure protective coating, water and weatherproof.

As standard Ten spa offers to manufacture saunas entrance doors from glass or wood.

Whilst, choosing which door is better please read the following information which may help you to make the final decision:

Glass door from hardened glass with brown toning will have a luxury appearance, soft closing, dimensional stability but can not be locked.

Wooden door will have luxury appearance, lower costs, lower dimensional stability and it will be lockable.

Thus, consider your circumstances, bearing in mind that wooden doors are lockable, whereas glass doors are not.

Ten Spa suggests two alternative lighting options for a barrel sauna. Both Harvia sauna lamps or LED lights will look amazing and will provide an efficient and romantic lighting inside the sauna room.
